"The FX96 Echo FX Analog Delay was introduced as an emulation of (and marketed as an improvement over) vintage tape echo effects, such as the Binson Echorec and Maestro Echoplex, initially made popular by rockabilly artists for "slapback" delay effects. The FX96 used the same MN3005 BBD chip as the discontinued FX90 Delay, but offered a longer delay time plus a low-pass filter to roll off the high end for a more authentic tape echo sound. The FX96 was first announced at Winter NAMM 1997, but did not officially debut until Summer NAMM 1997."
